Just a couple hours ahead of the leak, Czech automobile brand Skoda has officially announced the 2014 Skoda Yeti. This revised Skoda Yeti has also joined the Skoda’s new family designing, inspired from Skoda’s new DNA, VisionD Concept. The 2014 Skoda Yeti is just a mid-life facelift to the current generation Skoda Yeti and will make an international debut at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2013. The 2014 Skoda Yeti isn’t a major reformation but there are lot of visible changes making this outlandish compact-SUV much meaningful and appealing than that of the current generation one.
The 2014 Skoda Yeti looks very refined now with the styling adopted from the VisionD concept with the new sharper and meaner front fascia. The new rectangular compact-box like headlamps feel like Skoda’s new familiar edgy headlamp designing sprinkled with ideas from VW’s boxy-headlamps. The new grille, chrome stripe and hood look just like that of the new 2013 Skoda Octavia. Skoda is offering two different styling versions of the 2014 Skoda Yeti, in an elegant, stylish city look as well as an off-road look; There are some significant in the front and rear elements, such as bumpers, underride guard, side mouldings and door sills which are either in the body colour or, as with the ŠKODA Yeti outdoor version, remain in black plastic. Both the versions feature distinctive grille and redesigned headlights available as option from Bi-Xenon headlights with integrated LED daytime running lights. In the rear also we see lot of styling tweaks, a redesigned tailgate with the new C-cluster rear-lights, optionally available with LEDs and the new Skoda logo. Also, this is the first Skoda to offer what Skoda calls ‘Optical Parking Assistant’, an optional rear-view camera. For the first time Skoda is offering this latest generation automatic parking assistant system in the Skoda Yeti.
Skoda Yeti’s VarioFlex rear seat system will allow one to fold/remove the three rear seats individually, which means that the outer seats can be shifted closer to each other once you remove the middle seats seats, thus making the Skoda Yeti from 5-seater to a more spacious and roomy 4-seater. There is also a detachable LED light in the boot, vest holder under the driver’s seat and a waste container in the side door the new Skoda Yeti. The interior is basically the same like that of now, what’s new is that there is a new steering wheel like the 2013 Skoda Octavia and a new matte-brown upholstery.
The 2014 Skoda Yeti will be available with four diesel and three petrol engines, and all of them feature turbocharging with direct injection for maximum performance, best fuel-efficiency and compliance with tough emission standards. The engine power output ranges from 105hp (from the 1.2L TSI petrol engine) to 170hp (from the 2.0L TDI diesel engine). The 2014 Skoda Yeti will be available with both, 2WD (Front Wheel Drive) as well as 4WD, just like the current generation one. Coming to the transmission, the 2014 Skoda Yeti will be available with both, 6-speed DSG or 7-speed dual-clutch DSG automatic transmission. The are three ‘Green Tec’ variants (1.4 TSI/90 kW, 1.6 TDI/77KW and 2.0TDI/103KW) with 7-speed DSG transmission which include a package of fuel efficiency goodies like engine Start-Stop System, brake energy recovery system and low rolling resistance tyres. Skoda might launch this new Yeti in India by this year-end or by early 2014 maybe, as of now it’s clueless whether Skoda will update the well-doing Skoda Rapid in India first or the one making low-sales figures, the Skoda Yeti. But yes, you can expect Skoda to unveil the 2014 Skoda Yeti in India at the 2014 Auto Expo. Stay tuned to Wheelosphere for further exclusive updates.
