Toyota Kirloskar Motors has launched the new Land Cruiser Prado in India. The Toyota Land Cruiser Prado has been a brand icon for Toyota in India and so, even though the SUV sells in 2-digit numbers only, Toyota makes sure India gets the facelift model right on time. The 2014 Land Cruiser Prado is a facelift to it’s 4th generation model introduced globally back in 2009.
On the exterior, the 2014 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado sports new front grille, re-designed bumper, fog lamps and head lamps, a new rear license plate garnish, and LED headlamps and daytime running lights. The front looks lot better than the previous model, modern, something like a real American or European SUV would look-like. The new LED headlamps look beautifully designed, which is a critical update considering how alien-like and dull the headlamps of the outgoing model looked. The re-designed-headlamps and new & bigger, shark-grinning grille gives the Land Cruiser Prado a likeable-monstrous look.Inside the car, there hasn’t been much of visual changes, but the new switchgear, fabrics and wood-finish do feel better than ever. The second row seating features a heater now. There’s a new 7″ touch-screen display for infotainment system, which Toyota’s Indian website calls “Touch Screen Audio Display” and so if you’re thinking that the 2014 Land Cruiser Prado is shy on a Satellite-Navigation system, you could be absolutely right, because the e-brochure doesn’t mention one either.
Anyways, these are the basic things we talked about. Coming to the features that makes the 2014 Land Cruiser Prado a tough, rugged as well as a smart SUV, is what Toyota calls ‘Crawl Control’, which is essentially a system that makes accelerator and brake usage unnecessary when driving over off-road terrain or on slippery surfaces. a Multi-Terrain Select System which allows one to toggle between various driving modes like Rock, Rock and Dirt, Mogul, Loose Rock and Mud & Sand, Multi-Terrain Monitor by four cameras to provide a better view of the surroundings, and a tyre pressure monitoring system. The 2014 Land Cruiser Prado has other noticeable features like Downhill Assist Control, Hill Assist Control, 7 SRS airbags, Whiplash Injury Lessening and Vehicle Stability Control.
The new Land Cruiser Prado still retains the same 3.0L D-4D diesel engine producing 173PS power output and 410Nm torque mated to the same 5-speed automatic transmission. The 2014 Land Cruiser Prado is available with five body colours, White Pearl Crystal Shine, Silver Metallic, Grey Metallic, Dark Blue Metallic and Black. The 2014 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is priced at INR 84.87 lakh (ex-showroom New Delhi), which again reflects that this SUV is apparently targeted at a Niche market – the serious off-roaders and VIPs who want to customize big SUVs to armed beasts and drive safe. The 2014 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado still stands at being the most capable SUV in it’s segment. Stay tuned to Wheelosphere for more exclusive updates.
