Bajaj Discover 100T has become the latest entrant in India’s 100cc motorcycle market. The all new 100cc bike is powered by Bajaj Auto’s 100cc DTSi engine and coupled to a five speed gearbox. The single cylinder four stroke engine is capable to produce 10.2PS maximum power which is 30 percentage compared to other products available in the market. The Bajaj Discover 100T can clock a top speed of 100 km/hour. Bajaj claims Discover 100T will return segment topping mileage of 87 km/l.
Bajaj Discover 100T carries a price tag of Rs.50,500 (ex-show room New Delhi). Bajaj Auto has been priced above the competition. But company is confident about the pricing strategy.
“We are a very conservative company, in terms of our strategy. We design platforms, we don’t design products. So, we designed the platform of the Discover 125ST such that the Discover 100T could be made on the same line. I did say there would be many more products on this platform,” said Rajiv Bajaj, Managing Director, Bajaj Auto Ltd.
Bajaj Discover 100T is sharing platform with Bajaj 125ST. So both the bikes are sharing lots of components. This strategy has further raked up the costing of the bike. Bajaj Auto spent approximately Rs.5-6Cr to develop Discover 100T.
The 100cc segment is currently dominated by bikes like Hero MotoCorp Splendor, Hero MotoCorp Passion, Honda Twister, Honda Dream Yuga, Bajaj Platina and Suzuki Hayate. In this highly competitive market company aims to sell 45,000 units of Bajaj Discover 100T. Company is confident about the potential of Discover 100T.
“The steady growth of the more expensive 100 cc bikes at the cost of the cheaper models is a clear evidence of the shifting market trends. The Discover 100T delivers power of 125 cc motorcycle and mileage of a 100 cc,” said Mr Srinivas, Head Two Wheeler business, Bajaj Auto Ltd.
