The BMW X3 has lost some of its camouflage two months ahead of its official unveiling. The BMW X3 is actually in the final evaluation phase and compared to older spy pictures that have been coming up from time to time, these pictures from Germany show the X3 with lesser camouflage. The new X3 goes upmarket based on an all new platform that will feature the 2012 BMW 3-Series. It is said to be as long as the original X5. The new X3 will be sleeker and sport a rounded look.
The X3 will continue to feature the characteristic “kicked-up” window line. The X3 is also higher than the X1 with some new design features borrowed from both the X1 and X5. The overall look resembles a X1 although the kidney grille sits lower and there is a new horizontal opening like on the X5. Interiors will get more luxury compared to the X1 (and the older X3) although the design will remain largely similar. It will also address complaints related to rear space in the older model. The 2011 X3 will offer several options seen in higher end models: Night Vision System, Head-Up Display, Adaptive Headlights or seats with ventilation.
While the first generation X3 was assembled in Austria by Magna Steyr automaker, the new F25 model joins the X-family at their Spartanburg plant in South Carolina. India will probably get a CKD-X3 to keep costs down and compete head on with the Q5. Prices will increase but it is worth paying for an all new larger model. Stay tuned for more.
