Chevrolet Sail sedan has been launched in India with a compelling price tag. The basic version of the boot attached Chevrolet Sail is priced at an unbelievable Rs.4.99 lakh. The price crosses Rs.7.5lakh mark for the top end model runs on diesel engine. The Chevrolet Sail hatchback was launched in last year, which was expected to lock horns with hatchbacks like Maruti Suzuki Swift and Hyundai i20. But the car has received a lukewarm response till now. Now the sedan variant is here to gain a pie of entry level sedan market.
The Chevrolet Sail sedan is developed by General Motors and their Chinese alliance partner SAIC. The model is developed in keeping mind developing markets like India, China and Brazil.
“It is an important addition to GM’s sedan line up in India. It competes in one of the fastest-growing segments,” said Lowell Paddock, President and Managing Director, General Motors India.
Chevrolet Sail sedan is available in both diesel and petrol variants. The diesel variants are propelled by 1.3ltr engine sourced from Fiat while the petrol variants are powered by a 1.2ltr engine. Both the engines are already available in it’s hatchback sibling. According General Motors, the engines are tuned to get fuel efficiency of 22.1 kmpl (diesel) and 18.2 kmpl (petrol). There are eight variants of Chevrolet Sail sedan on offer, four petrol and four diesel variants each.
Sail sedan is available in shade options – Switch blade Silver, Velvet Red, Caviar Black, Linen Beige, Misty Lake, Summit White and Sand Drift Grey. Like other Chevrolet products the Sail sedan also comes with 3 Years Vehicle Warranty and 5 Years Warranty for Engine and Transmissions.

General Motors has been successful in pricing the Sail sedan competitively. But the competition is very tough and proven products like Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Tata Indigo CS and Mahindra Verito. Will the pocket friendly pricing will help Chevrolet Sail sedan to shed it’s Chinese origin tag? We strongly doubt it.
