Honda Motors recently teased an all new Urban SUV concept. While Honda is tightlipped about further developments, a Honda fan has come out with a rendering of the upcoming compact SUV from the Japanese. This all new SUV will be built on Honda Jazz platform and the production version will be evolved by end of this year.
With the launch of this new SUV, Honda is expected to target buyers of Nissan Juke, Fiat 500X, Opel Mokka and Chevrolet Trax. Honda has chalked out very ambitious plans for this vehicle. Company aims to sell 400,000 units of this Urban SUV across various markets. While the Honda Jazz is expected to bring another 800,000 units sale.
Though the engine line up are not known at this moment, we expect Honda Urban SUV will get both petrol and diesel engines. The current 1.2ltr i-VTEC engine could be the choice for petrol powered variants while the recently unveiled 1.5ltr D-tech engine will propel diesel sipping variants. The engine will be mated to a five speed manual gear box initially and an auto box equipped model may follow. There are reports suggesting that Honda Urban SUV will be available in all wheel drive version as well.
Honda Motors will launch this new SUV in American markets by 2014. Honda Motors has already announced an all new plant in Mexico which is expected to be commissioned by 2014. So Honda Urban SUV will be rolled out for Latin American markets from this plant.
At this point of time, we are not sure about new Honda Urban SUV’s Indian arrival. But Indian market has been now very much inclined to MUVs and SUVs. So we see a bright future for a product like this one in out local market. We all know, that Honda India is working overtime to bring their first diesel vehicle, Honda Amaze in here. 2012 Honda CRV could be the next product lined up for this market. But we think Honda Urban SUV will definitely hit Indian market in due course. Do you agree..?
