Honda Urban SUV concept was previewed during recently concluded Detroit Motor Show. Going by past experience, the production version of the concept car will be different from the concept. We had featured a possible rendering of the Honda Urban SUV earlier and now we have another set of rendering of the Japanese compact SUV. This all new SUV is expected to hit production line by 2015 and expected to land in almost all markets where Honda is present.
This new Urban SUV is built on Honda’s one of the most successful product, Honda Jazz hatchback. The Carplace, a Brazilian automobile news website has come out with a set of new renderings of the all new Honda Urban SUV. With the launch of this new compact SUV, Honda will lock horns with Ford, Nissan, Renault Duster and Peugeot in compact SUV space.
Like other recently launched Honda products, this Urban SUV also will come with sporty design aspects. The curvy roofline is similar to a coupe and will give better aerodynamic characteristics to the vehicle. While the handles of the front doors are of regular design, the rear door handles have been placed parallel C-Pillar. Under the roof, there will be two rows of seats thus Honda Urban SUV could be a proper five seater. The front grille looks similar to those of Ford EcoSport (especially those horizontal slats). The swept back headlights will have a line of LED lamps. In the rear, the boot lid looks very clean and the tail lamps looks simplistic yet stylish. Honda may hide the spare wheel under the carpet.
As per Honda officials, the new Urban SUV will be “dynamic and sporty but spacious and functional.” The seating arrangements of this vehicle will be similar to those of Honda Jazz. That means Honda’s unique Magic Seats will feature in this SUV when it go for production.
There are not much details available about engine up of this new SUV. But a 1.6ltr oil burner lifted from Honda Civic (European variant) is almost certain. The petrol variants of get a 1.5 ltr 16V or a 1.8 ltr 16V engine adopted from Civic sedan. The engine will be mated to either a manual or an automatic transmission unit. The Honda Urban SUV is expected to be of front wheel drive lay out, according to latest news reports, a 4×4 version is not in consideration.
