In a rather image overhauling and policy changing move, Honda Motorcycles & Scooters India Pvt. Ltd,(HMSI) has launched the Dream Yuga at the Taj in Mumbai. The event played host to the several dealers, Honda associates and the media and also reaffirmed the Honda’s new policy of making India friendly products which will be accessible to the entire spectrum of customers. And not just that, the company also has plans to export the Yuga to the neighboring countries in the subcontinent.
The dream Yuga is Honda’s first step towards the mass commuter segment and this they will do it with the popular Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar as the brand ambassador. The bike will be priced at Rs. 48, 028/-(Ex-Showroom) and is powered by a 110 cc engine and produces 8.5 bhp @7500 rpm. The Company claims to have introduced cutting edge technology to the ignition system, which we quiet frankly don’t get because of the ‘only okayish power’. The bike has a typical commuter segment decals and an upright ergonomic stance with a short stocky stance helps carve the traffic. Also the commuter is garnished with aesthetic bits like the matt black grab rail, realistic meter console etc.
The bike promises a mileage of 72kmpl (we know how to interpret that!) and will appeal to the rural commuters (which forms the backbone of the Indian Motorcycle Industry). However a few things we should warn you about. First, the bike comes without a disc brake up front and two the premium cost of the Honda spares. Also we wonder if the Dream Yuga will cause a certain amount of cannibalization to the Twister, since it features the same 109 cc engine. Tell us what you think?
