Maruti Suzuki’s all new MPV RIII is expected to hit Indian roads by end of 2011. Earlier Maruti RIII was spied during testing in Rajasthan. Now more details including engine and dimensions about RIII MPV are emerging. According to Autocar India, Maruti will offer a diesel engine and petrol engine on RIII. The diesel engine is a familiar face, the one which propels Maruti Suzuki SX4 diesel while the petrol engine will make it’s international debut through RIII MPV.
Maruti will continue to source 1.3DDiS engine from Fiat for the usage in RIII. The diesel motor will develop 89bhp maximum power with decent full efficiency. Suzuki’s new K14 engine will have swept volume of 1372cc and will deliver additional 6 hp power compared to diesel engine.
As we said earlier, RIII MPV is a stretched Ritz intended to act as a family mover. The RIII will be 4265mm long so naturally RIII MPV wont be able to enjoy small car tax benefit. To accommodate three row seat configuration Maruti engineers have stretched Ritz wheelbase by 380mm to 2780mm. Maruti Suzuki is king of small car in India. Their last offering in people mover segment was Eeco and it is a huge success especially in Taxi segment. The reason for Maruti Eeco’s success was it’s value for money aspect.
Will Maruti be able to replicate the success of Eeco while launching RIII..? We need to wait and watch..
