The VW-Suzuki deal has not seen any children thus far but reports say that VW would like to use the SX4 platform and build their own crossover on it. VW is missing from the small crossover segment, something that it is looking at entering using the platform of the Suzuki SX4. Our source suggests that it could be called Rocktan. In Europe, VW will pit it against the Nissan Qashqai and Hyundai ix35. Price-wise, it would be in between the CrossPolo and CrossGolf.
VW would definitely replace Suzuki’s timid engines with their range of TSi and TDi engines producing around 140bhp and lower end models would be Front Wheel Drive only. The rendering show a typical VW face although we doubt if this model will make it to showrooms as VW could wait and base their crossover on the new platform of the next-gen SX4 which is due in 2012.
